One of the most popular handgun platforms on the market today that doesn’t get talked about enough is the Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 series of pistols. These pistols offer a bevy of modern features including interchangeable Palmswell backstraps for a custom fit tailored to individual shooters, a Picatinny rail for attaching innumerable accessories, and Smith & Wesson’s Pro Series triggers – an upgrade from their entry-level models like the SD9VE and others. If you happen to be in the “out group” that simply doesn’t get excited by SIG, Springfield, or Glock, then a Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 handgun might be exactly what you have been searching for and we will explain why.
For a condensed history lesson to kick this off, the original M&P series of handguns has been around for 14+ years from 2006 to 2020. This series of handguns got its acronym and name for these pistols being built for “Military and Police” forces; thus, you have M&P. Next in line, logically, came the M&P M2.0 which debuted in 2017 and has already been around the block and proven itself for 6+ years. Moreover, Smith & Wesson even entered a version of the M&P9 M2.0 for the military’s most recent handgun contract, and they got narrowly edged out by SIG Sauer and their P320. So, while the M&P and M&P M2.0 have displayed several decades of success, why would you want to own one?... We are glad that you asked.
The M&P9 M2.0 as we mentioned earlier has a lot of desirable features. There are threaded barrel options with suppressor height sights. You can also choose from multiple frame sizes for whatever you believe might be best for your intended use and couple those with an array of different magazine capacities. Smith & Wesson also offers 4 interchangeable Palmswell grip inserts out-of-the-box to ensure it fits you perfectly. There are manual safety and non-manual safety versions depending on whether you like that kind of thing or not. Additionally, all the M&P M2.0 handguns sport a Pro Series trigger with a tactile and audible reset plus a trigger safety built in as well. They also will utilize an extended rigid embedded stainless-steel chassis for a smooth reciprocating slide, and have front and rear slide serrations, too. Finally, you have strong exterior finishes applied like Smith & Wesson’s Armornite black or FDE Cerakote. These are not only attractive but help ensure the longevity of your handgun as well. Any modern handgun would not be complete if it were not optics ready and the M&P M2.0 series has lots of offerings with that attribute.
From a maintenance standpoint – or modification viewpoint – they are also very easy to disassemble, modify, and maintain. No gunsmithing degree is required. So, if the big hitters of Glock, SIG, and Springfield simply don’t “trip your trigger,” you might want to take a good hard look at Smith & Wesson and what they have going on with the M&P M2.0 series of handguns. In the end, make sure to get out there training, honing your craft, and getting reps with your firearms, and Tyrant can help you along the way with some rad accessories SHOP SMITH & WESSON M&P UPGRADES.
